Get back down that mine shaft!

Gotta hand it to Bronny for sheer chutzpah. Not even Winston would advocate a return to the days of child labour.

Bron wants to solve the current armed forces recruitment drought. That's right, less people are signing up to serve their country and get caught in an ambush in Afghanistan or Iraq or East Timor or some other busted arse country. So Bron says, lower the recruitment age from 18 to 14 for the Navy.

The fu?

Well, it is the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII, maybe she was inspired by true-life stories of young teen boys on the German front lines as the war came to a hideous close.

Geezs - it isn't policy Bronny, it is actualy the world convention against Child Labour and Child Soldiers.
Some countries think Australia is wrong to have the odd 17 year old yeaqr twelve leaver in the army.

Well then, our navy 'boys' (who really will be boys) will have plenty in common with the child soldiers in Chechnya and Liberia.

Conscript the old. No more pensions. Think about it.

Maybe writing that down was a mistake. If it occurs to them, my approaching decrepitude could be lived out in a tattered tent in Puckapunyul eating ex-WW2 rations and running very very slowly at stuffed dummies with a rusty bayonet.

PS, Barista, I can't comment on your blog and I don't know why. It won't let me.
